even viewers staged themselves...

And the Winner is...

Taking the Diesel Power Challange First Place and beating all others on the Dyno at May Madness...(with a Cummins 5.9L of course)

Diesel Power Challenge (DPC in SLC)

And they're off!! With the beautiful snow capped Wasatch Mountains for a backdrop, the Diesel Power Challenge by Diesel Power Mag kicked off with the first of a 5-part test of Steel and Diesel. And various chemicals. The temps hit 80 on this beautiful sunny day and fun was had by all, just see for yourself...

Tractor Pull, DPC style...

Even the Parking Lot was Cool...

Trucks weren't the only beautiful thing...

And diesel isn't the only way to get your motor running. A wink from Christine can make your whole day.

DYNO competition

Richard runs dynoAnd behind him you'll see the mighty F350 and our cute little Excursion with nifty graphics...

Finale-DPC

Last Dyno run of the day...and what a show they put on! There was a very bad noise on the second (and obviously last) run and then pieces of metal shot up out of the exhaust and rained down on us all. Fortunately, gravity helped them drive off the dyno...but we mourn the loss of their turbo.

We Know Diesel!

But we get all types here. Performance is Richard's middle name; and it don't matter if it's gas, or which decade... so we get to see all kinds of fun stuff here at Maddog. This week, for example...

We can fix that...

It says 427 on the outside, 460 on the inside...

and fun all over!

Diesel World Crude Drags 2008

The Weather Threatened for the Crude Drags in Bakersfield at the Famoso Raceway...we faced cold, rain, and sleet on the way down, but it made for a scenic drive

1262hp when last dyno-ed on pure #2, the F350 is still a daily-driver. A 10gal competition gas tank though means lots of stops on the way. Unfortunatley, the F350 was not fully ready for competition and Maddog MotorSports and Diesel Performance ran the Dyno instead this time...

Heavy overnight rains kept the track from opening until lunch time but there was plenty to see in the parking lot beforehand...

Trucks of all Kinds and Sizes

Banks uncovered...what makes it go fast? I see two turbos, low weight, wiring, and a bunch of funky tanks and fluids...

Airwerks?

Orange County Diesel makes a Big Appearance

Fans of all sizes

Big Fans sometimes come in little packages

Speeders

Banks had a very fast, very loud crowd pleasure, turning in its trademark 8.40 1/4mile at about 167mph...

Also a very fast truck

Fast and Green

A Day at the Dyno

Always a crowd pleaser, dyno runs loud and black!

Fire in the Hole!

Checkin in at the dyno table...check out his kid's fire-breathing truck in the next pic

Yes, that is flammage exhausting out of the pipe...click to enlarge:

This Year Looks Good!

See Richard Go! Pic from DieselPowerMag.com
Big businesses seek out superstars in their field and pay big-time for their endorsements. The Michael Jordans and the Tiger Woods of the world make far more from their sponsors than from their salary and winnings on sheer excitement power!

In Richard’s case, sponsors help make his experimentation and showmanship even better. The result; Richard "Maddog" Madsen is one of the great stars of the Diesel Drag-Racing circuit and one of the most visible. Considered by some as a pioneer in the field, he has held several world-records from time to time and always has a way of drawing attention.

This year we have some great events lined up! If you are a fan, thank a sponsor: you have a great season of events to look forward to! (A preliminary Calendar will be posted soon) If you’re in business, you may want to request that we rush you a proposal booklet!

Whatever the case, I am proud to say that, in his own way, Richard has become a great little part of American history. And isn’t it nice when history is fun!?

Back From Iraq and on the Attack

Something Like This...

I was having a lovely little time in Iraq when I heard Richard still had not raced the Lightning! So instead of riding shotgun, I came back to St. George and I am aiming it at him, figuratively speaking. Therefore, we will be racing it in February. Or Else!!!

Right now the Lightning is white, but will pretty much look like the photo above as far as style, when it is finished. Stay tuned for more updates...
