Last Dyno run of the day...and what a show they put on! There was a very bad noise on the second (and obviously last) run and then pieces of metal shot up out of the exhaust and rained down on us all. Fortunately, gravity helped them drive off the dyno...but we mourn the loss of their turbo.

Diesel World Crude Drags 2008

The Weather Threatened for the Crude Drags in Bakersfield at the Famoso Raceway...we faced cold, rain, and sleet on the way down, but it made for a scenic drive

1262hp when last dyno-ed on pure #2, the F350 is still a daily-driver. A 10gal competition gas tank though means lots of stops on the way. Unfortunatley, the F350 was not fully ready for competition and Maddog MotorSports and Diesel Performance ran the Dyno instead this time...

Heavy overnight rains kept the track from opening until lunch time but there was plenty to see in the parking lot beforehand...

Back From Iraq and on the Attack

Something Like This...

I was having a lovely little time in Iraq when I heard Richard still had not raced the Lightning! So instead of riding shotgun, I came back to St. George and I am aiming it at him, figuratively speaking. Therefore, we will be racing it in February. Or Else!!!

Right now the Lightning is white, but will pretty much look like the photo above as far as style, when it is finished. Stay tuned for more updates...

Dear Maddog Fans (of which I am one)

I sure have enjoyed tooling along with Richard, it has been a blast to see the Maddog his BAD self in action, from races to repairs to making of history! Seems like every month he was figuring out how to add another 60 or 100 HP to the machine, making it even more challenging to get the power to the pavement. Wish I could keep riding along as a part of the Maddog Race Team to see how it happens.

Unfortunatley, that did not pay the bills for me and I have gone Back to Iraq to help the Marines in Fallujah keep their vehicles running. I guess the best way to keep tabs on Richard, the might F350 and the soon to rise to fame Maddog Ford Lightning is to keep an eye on the diesel forum chatrooms and boards.

Weekend on the Edge 2006!

Isn't that a great shot? Weather and a clean truck and a few stars finally aligned for a good shoot. After a roaring set of victories--see the following pics and story! The amazing F350 with (patented, I wish) Maddog Technology has several hundred horsepower MORE than its nearest competitors. The Maddog modified Cummins engine is so ahead of its time that drivetrain technology for this vehicle still has not caught up and seems like something is always breaking. But that made the Weekend on the Edge in Salt Lake City all that more exciting. Please, read on...

Victory!

Right hand holds the trophy for fastest ET at the drag races, left hand holds the green plaque for highest horsepower on the dyno, and the accompanying $$value certificates.

And what a story behind the trophies! In the drag race, Richard was making the qualifying run when the transmission input shaft snapped (again) right before the 1/8-mile mark. Richard coasted the second half of the 1/4-mile run and STILL got the fastest time of the night! By the time he got to the end of the track, he had slowed to about 99mph and an elapsed time of 11.69, can you believe that??? Those numbers coasting the second half of the race!

The crew spent a few hours into the night and the next morning replacing the input shaft on the trans for the Dyno event the next day. The first run Richard took it easy on the stock shaft but went "for broke" as it were, on the second Dyno run. The rollers could simply not keep up, the tires smoking on the rollers! Richard won with almost 200HP over the nearest competitor with a "best" of 940HP and 1519 Torque measured, but there was simply not enough friction to get a true reading on the rollers.

Edge Crew hooks up the mighty F350, which blew off the exhaust tubes on the first run and smoked the tires on the second run! The rollers simply could not keep up with the torque so the best run only reported 940HP, but believe me, it was much more!

Wild and Crazy things are going on here at Maddog Motor Sports! We are adding a bigger better location in St. George, but more on that later. Right now we are gearing up, as it were, for Weekend on the Edge in Salt Lake City, September 8 and 9. On that Friday we race.

Richard has finally taken steps to turn the Family F350 that has been astounding crowds and setting unprecedented records, when not picking up milk and groceries, and turning it into a more dedicated race vehicle. You will notice many external changes as Richard reduces weight and adds traction to a truck that already beats everyone off the line! Under the hood there will be many other less obvious but significant ways to increase horsepower and in the drivetrain to get the power to the ground!

So be sure to show up, or check here for exciting details afterwards! We should see some really exciting numbers and action...and pay attention soon for dates on the Maddog Ford Lightning debut!!! You are going to need a 9-second truck to hang wit-it~

Annual August Blackout 2006 NADP

It was a beautiful day hitting only 70 degrees with a cool breeze perfect for racing. We arrived in Edmonton, Canada at the invitation of the NADP---North American Diesel Performance club. It was a fine day and a good time.

A Fine Exibition Race

In this first exibition race between Maddog and this Corvette, everything was looking good. Off the line the crowd roared to see the huge F350 pull a full second ahead by the 1/8mile mark. But they uttered an sympathetic "ohhhhhh!" after an audible and onimus 'PoP' was heard and the Maddog F350 slowed to allow the Corvette a win. It was later determined that axelshaft/differential damage had occurred. Not bad though, for an axel/differential assembly well over 150,ooo miles with Maddog at the wheel!

10.85 Dodge

This very fast Dodge went up against Richard. Richard came out fast but the mighty F350 with its damaged drivetrain kept pulling towards the center and the Maddog racer had to let off the gas three times to correct the pull. The Yellow Bullet did a 10.85 with Richard coming in @ 11.58 in the 1/4mile---he was expecting to do 10.50 or better. Still, this exibition run was another great crowd-pleaser. A New Record! Again.

Colorado Event: 21-23 July, 2006

Richard and crew member Brenton drove out to Colorado to test out our new Dyno-Jet at the Truck Fest: sponsored by Rocky Mountain Cummins. The Dyno tried throwing a few glitches at its new owners but otherwise met the purposes of its design and fun was had.

Richard ran his own truck on the Dyno-Jet at the end of the event. Richard topped off the event by putting the MADDOG F350 on the block and turning in A NEW HIGH 1013 HP! Mr. Maddog got some extra juice out of his rig by using a tighter spooling turbo, helping ramp up boost sooner into the power band.

Unfortunately, the digital camera was left behind in our busy scheduling so when the 35mm shots are developed…mmmmm...don't hold your breath. On this day I rode up with Richard to the Bully Dog's 2006 Dog Days of Summer Dyno Competition in Aberdeen, Idaho. 60 diesel trucks signed up to show their stuff. I’ll let the pictures below tell the story, but let’s just say it was lots of fun!

Listen to the audio and you’ll hear the Maddog Truck whine like a jet turbine. The sound when Richard was testing on the dyno was a world apart from the other trucks that ran.

Breakin' Records

For the event at this location Maddog's 3-year old record was finally broken today, first by Damian Reese (01 Dodge w/nitrous), but topped by the Top Dog, Richard "Maddog" Madsen, with 945 horses on pure fuel.

The punch line? Pulling off the dyno, Richard smelled something funny--the parking brake had been left on the whole time! The poor brakes didn't stand a chance against nearly 1000 horses, but Bully Dog offered to let him make one more run. Declining, Richard felt confident, if a little sheepish, that he would still take the event. He did, of course.
